Storm Warning

Life has a way of throwing storms at us without warning. One minute, the sun is shining, and the next, the wind is howling, the rain is pounding, and you’re wondering if you’re even going to make it through. I’ve been there, feeling like everything around me is shaking, and I’m just trying to hang on to something solid.
The disciples felt the same way in Mark 4:35–41. A storm hit while they were on the boat with Jesus, and they panicked. They ran to Him shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” And Jesus, calm as ever, got up and rebuked the wind and the waves. The storm obeyed His voice immediately. Then He turned to them and basically said, “Where is your faith?”
I remember driving home from Topeka to Wichita with my First Lady one evening in the middle of a terrible storm. The rain was coming down sideways, the thunder was cracking, and the wind was doing the most. Suddenly, it stopped raining for about 30 seconds. In that moment of calm, my First Lady said, “Lord, please hold this storm back until we get to Wichita.”
And y’all, right after she said that—BOOM! Thunder. Lightning. Rain pouring like never before. I just shook my head and laughed, like, “God, you are funny. We see You!” That’s when it hit me: God didn’t hold the storm back because He wasn’t planning to take us around it—He wanted to take us through it.
Storm assurance isn’t about God removing every storm from our path. It’s about knowing He’s with us in it. He might let the rain fall, the thunder roll, and the winds blow—but He will carry you through to the other side.
So today, I challenge you to shift your mindset. Stop living for storm avoidance and start living with storm assurance. The next time life starts to shake, pause and remind yourself:
“I will not sink. I will not drown. God is with me, and this storm will pass.”
Because sometimes God doesn’t hold the storm back—He just holds you together until you make it home.
